Guide for submitting papers to FITEC- AQUA

The Notice to submit papers includes three modalities:

  • Technologies by Component.
  • Technological Packages.
  • Technological Development.

For the purposes of this Notice, the following shall refer to:

  • Technologies by Component- are all those technologies, either referring to products or to processes, designed to solve a specific problem of the global production process.
  • Technological Development- refers to the entire machinery and/or equipment that improve a phase of the production process, wither decreasing costs and/or making a phase or the entire aquaculture or fishing production process more efficient.
  • Technological Package- refers to the group of technological components designed to transform the production process integrally or the group of technologies that encompasses all areas of the aquaculture or fisheries production system.

Invariably, all proposals must be accompanied by a full document and an abstract which specifies the following:

NAME OF THE COMPONENT, PACKAGE OR TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT Written in capital letters in Spanish and English.

AUTHOR(S) AND INSTITUTION(S): Surname followed by the initials of mother's surname and name(s). I.e..: Avila GE*, Romano MJL and González PE (the name of the author giving the presentation should be marked by an asterisk). There should be no dots between the initials, or at the end of each name. Academic titles or degrees should not be included. The Institution of the author(s) should be identified and the e-mail of the author responsible for the research should be included (see attachment: example of abstract).

TEXT: The document in full should clearly describe the objectives, methodology (including the experimental design and statistical analysis), relevant numeral results, statistical significances, conclusions and impacts. Quotes and the list of references should be included as well. The abstract should not include tables or figures, quotes or a reference list.

PROCESSOR AND FONT: Word for Windows, Times New Roman size 12 font should be used.

SIZE: The abstract, including all its items (title in Spanish and English, authors, institutions, text, acknowledgements, and required blank lines) should not exceed 43 lines on one sheet of paper whose left margin should be 3 cm, and whose right margin should be 2.5 cm.

At the bottom of the page (NOT inserted as a footnote), include:

FORM OF PRESENTATION: State either “Poster”, “Booth” or “Verbal Presentation”. Priority will be given to the author's selection, but changes can be made due to the program and space availability or logistics support requirements do thus demand.

SECTIONS: Choose one of the selections provided below:

a) Aquaculture Production.

b) Fisheries Production.

c) Processing Industry.

d) Distribution Industry.

ELECTRONIC FILES: A file should be sent for each proposal.

DEADLINE: Papers should be received at the latest by September 30 th , 2010.

EVALUATION AND NOTICE: Papers will be evaluated by a specialist Committee whose decision can not be appealed. At all times will the authorship of the proposals be respected; nevertheless, the Organizing Committee will not be held liable in case of any controversy or claim for copyrights. The acceptance notice (stating date, time, place and form of presentation) will be provided by e-mail as of October 10 th , 2010.

POSTER

VERBAL PRESENTATION: Should be made within a maximum of 20 minute period and there will be 5 minutes available for questions and answers. Only one slide projector will be used for visual supports. A Power Point presentation will be required which should cover the titles of the CONTENT.

PRESENTATION AT BOOTH: All those proposals that require an exhibit space will have a 2 by 3 meter booth which will be equipped with electricity (110 V), a table and two chairs.

SCREENS: These will be in vertical format and will measure 240 x 120 cm. the space to be used on these screens amounts to 200 x 100 cm. The number of the screen will be published in the Meeting Program; posters should be set-up at least 60 minutes prior to the time scheduled for the presentation.

CONTENT: The content of the poster will be the same set forth in the abstract, but the sections will bear subtitles (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions). The text, graphs, photographs, and illustrations must be readable at a distance of at least 1.5 m or greater.

The author must be presented besides his/her screen during the time of the presentation to answer any questions from the attendants.

RECOGNITION: A printed recognition and a FITEC-AQUA award will be given to the best papers in each of the following modalities: Technological Components, Technological Package, and Technological Development. For the evaluation and providing the awards, the Jury will consider the practical applicability of the proposals. The Scientific Committee will recommend the best papers and these will be evaluated by specialized committees on the day of their presentation.

REGISTRATION FOR THE EVENT INCLUDES: Participation at the event, certificate of attendance, memoirs, and welcome cocktail.
