The state of Chiapas , which will host FIACUI 2011, has a large potential for aquaculture production.

·Its 10 hydrographic basins are Mexico 's most important and represent 30% of the country's hydrological network.

·Its 260 km of coastlines represent 78 thousand hectares of coastal lagoons and 23 hectares of the coastal plain.

Chiapas is located in Mexico 's southeastern region. It has a damp, tropical climate and geographically it is divided into five zones which are: forest, mountain, central valley, the Sierra Madre of Chiapas and the Soconusco (which is a region of rich lowlands and hills located in the state's southernmost region).
